Pokemon Crater

PikachuIf you're looking to play Pokemon online, you are sadly out of luck.

I just saw this on Mahalo:

"Pokemon Crater was an online Pokemon battle arena that allowed users to sign up for a free account, acquire Pokemon and then battle with them over the internet. The site has not been operational since December 1, 2007. It is speculated that the site's creator "Aaron" closed Pokemon Crater when he graduated from college."

Well congratulations to Aaron for graduating college but what about Pokemon fans? I'd still really like to see Nintendo make a 3-D, online, multi-player Pokemon game sort of like Worlds of Warcraft but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Pokemon Lollipop Recall

Pokemon Valentine Lollipops are being recalled after several incidents in Florida where metal was found in the candy.

Investigators are saying that it doesn't look like product tampering and that they suspect it was a manufacturing problem that caused the metal fragments to become embedded in the lollipops.

Pokemon News

Want to read an article by someone who blames Pokemon for the downfall of civilization? Then be sure to check out, "Japanese anime destroying American Society".

The author claims that shows like Pokemon have no redeeming value and the children who watch it are destined to lead society into ruins.

"So what is Pokemon teaching the next generation of kids? The virtues of capturing exotic animals and making them fight for your amusement? I already learned that from Michael Vick."
"The next generations of kids aren't even getting a chance. Unless something is done to reverse this trend, we're going to be looking at millions of high school dropouts who don't see the point in going to college unless it teaches them to capture magic crystals."

When I posted this, there were 77 angry comments and I'm sure he's going to get more, but I think that was the idea. I'm not familiar with this "Independent student newspaper at the University of Oregon" but this article is probably getting a lot of pageviews which will definitely make their sponsors happy. Mission accomplished, Pokemon hater.

Mother Selling Smuggled Pokemon Cards on eBay

This is one of the most interesting and humorous eBay listings I've seen in a long time.

I'm selling a bunch of Pokemon cards. Why? Because my kids sneaked them into my shopping cart while at the grocery store and I ended up buying them because I didn't notice they were there until we got home. How could I have possibly not noticed they were in my cart, you ask? Let me explain.

You haven’t lived until you’ve gone grocery shopping with six kids in tow. I would rather swim, covered in bait, through the English Channel, be a contestant on Fear Factor when they’re having pig brains for lunch, or do fourth grade math than to take my six kids to the grocery store. Because I absolutely detest grocery shopping, I tend to put it off as long as possible. There comes a time, however, when you’re peering into your fridge and thinking, ‘Hmmm, what can I make with ketchup, Italian dressing, and half an onion,’ that you decide you cannot avoid going to the grocery store any longer...

You can read the entire eBay page here.

Pokemon Trading Card Game World Championships

The other day I posted about Jeremy Scharff Kim winning the Pokemon World Championships. Well he did win but there were other winners too. There were two other age groups in the contest. I guess I got the information from a Washington news source that was only reporting on it's local Pokemon champ.

I found this article from CTV in Canada that clears it up:

Tom Roos, 18, of Finland won the masters division late Sunday, while Jeremy Scharff-Kim, 13, of the United States and Jun Hasebe, seven, of Japan won the senior and junior divisions respectively.

So congratulations to all the winners.

Super Smash Bros. Adds Pokemon Trainer

A brand new fighter has been added to Super Smash Bros. Brawl and he looks a lot like Ash Ketchum. They’re actually calling the character Pokemon Trainer but fans of the Pokemon cartoons will recognize him as Ash.

And the Pokemon Trainer gets to take it easy on the sidelines and sends one of his three Pokemon (Squirtle, Ivysaur & Charizard) out at a time. Switch is done with a special move called Pokemon Change. All three share a damage meter so a switch won’t help you recover.

Since he isn’t even doing the fighting, why not add Misty or Dawn too. But I guess they wouldn’t call them by their names either and they add someone called Girl Pokemon Trainer.

Jeremy Scharff-Kim Crowned Pokémon World Champion

Jeremy Scharff-Kim, a 13 year old Seattle, WA native, was crowned 2007 Pokémon Trading Card Game World Champion this weekend in Kona, Hawaii.

Congratulations Jeremy, but when I read that your prize winnings for becoming world champion were a $7,500 scholarship and an all expenses paid trip to next year’s championship, I said to myself, “He was robbed!”

World Champions deserve much better than that. How about trip to the Nintendo offices or having a Pokémon named after you? Now those are decent prizes. Sure it’s great that you won some money for college but by the time that you go to college, your text books will probably cost you $7,500.

It's a huge accomplishment to become a world champion in anything and the payoff should be worth all the hard work and practice that goes into getting to that world class level.
